DEATH DOULA SERVICES FAQ

What is the difference between a death doula and other end of life transition services?

A death doula is not hospice services, nor palliative care. Typically, the costs are not covered by Medicare or private insurance. However, some hospice services may include death doula services as part of their care offerings. Death doulas offer non-medical, compassionate care for those walking the path towards an end of life transition. We partner with support provided by other sources like hospice, palliative care, plus the network and community of each client. A death doula is more than just a companion with a dying person; we are a source of grounded emotional and logistical support for both the individual and their loved ones.

Do I have to be in hospice or receive a serious diagnosis to bring in a death doula?

No. Some clients have their end of life plans in order before the end of their lives begin. This action of pre-planning is encouraged and it is an honor to serve in that capacity. The engagement with a collection of your end of life care saves time, monies, stress, and possible overwhelm. Your death can be authentic and unapologetically yours. If you plan ahead, you are able to choose your own team, have the logistics already in place, create your ideal funeral and surrender into your heart desires.

Are you certified as an end of life doula?

There is no certification for death doulas with an optional psychedelic component. It is up to each individual doula to seek out best practices. Under The Root and Jennifer M Brown gratefully have completed end of life doula training through EOLPC with Catherine Durkin Robinson of Anitya Doula Services, Psychedelic Doula Academy SPORE with Angela Ward of Guardian at the Gateway, and joined National End Of Life Doula Alliance. The real pudding seems to be the offering within community, finding out your particular skills and offering them, all the while, being part of wisdom sharing circles.

Are there services that you do not offer?

Yes, the services we do not provide: medical care, funeral direction, legal advice, will preparation, hands on care, house cleaning nor cooking.

Do you only serve clients in Greater Seattle Area?

No. We welcome and are grateful to serve anywhere across the Pacific Northwest and definitely the globe. This includes travel to specific places and locations, and we offer services remotely.

What is the Greater Seattle Area?

The area included in our service rates is considered the Greater Seattle Area. There is a map located on the website for Red Paw Technologies linked here.

How do I request a death doula services consultation?

If there are questions regarding the death doula services or to set up a collection of care with Under The Root and Jennifer M Brown, a 45 minute consultation for the dying and/or the loved ones is welcomed and available. We also offer death anxiety support sessions plus mourning and grief support sessions. You can access our schedule page with this link here.
